Run, Forest, Run

I was thinking about the last 7 or 8 months and the changes that have come into our life. Which is mainly moving back here and getting settled in again. I turned 30 (gasp!) 2 days before we moved. Happy 30th to me...now get on a plane with 2 kids, a million pieces of luggage and arrive many hours later to a new home! Stressful doesn't really describe it. :) I was thinking about all the things I've started doing and wondering if it has anything to do with turning 30 or moving here, or maybe both?

So, all of this to say that in the last few months I've started:

* drinking coffee most mornings

*baking from scratch (no choice really on this one, but it's been fun!)

*re-learned how to knit and have made a scarf, a purse and now working on a poncho (along with a few tiny blankets for the Fisher Price Little People that the girls' have-can't waste any yarn people!!!)

*working out

*tried my hand at sewing- made some "curtains" for Cerys and a few other things

And the last one, which brings me to my point-

*running.

I've enjoyed all these new things I've embarked upon, but this running thing has surprised me. I have always hated to run. I don't think I've been running since back in high school when I played basketball. And I hated it then too. Since I've been going to this Legs, Bums and Tums class I thought maybe I should throw a jog or two in the mix to kind of boost my post-baby weight loss, plus it will give me some time to think or listen to praise music on the ipod. I've thought about running for a long time- actually since 2002 when we watched the London Marathon on the telly. I was inspired. Not to run a marathon, but just to run. Anyway, now after 5 years (how sad) I've decided I should try running for fun. I put my trainers on (tennis shoes), came downstairs and announced to Marc that I was going to go running. I got a blank stare from him. He loaded up the ipod for me and off I went! That was 5 weeks ago and, I'm almost embarrassed to say- but I ran a mile tonight. Yes, only one little tiny mile, but I ran every step of it. I would usually run for a few minutes then walk for a few, then run, etc. But I've worked up to running a whole mile and I was pleased. I started setting goals for myself...like run to the red letter box, then run to that blue car, run to the round about, etc. I've thoroughly enjoyed my running time, not only for the physical benefit of it, but I love listening to some Watermark, or Ten Shekel Shirt, or U2, whatever Marc loads for me. I come back exhausted but in a good way and I'm sleeping better at night.

Now, if you are a runner and run a million miles all the time, please don't laugh at my one mile success story. I know I have a LONG way to go, but it's a start right?

And one more thing, I found this cute ticker and just thought I'd share with you that it's only one month, three weeks and six days till we are on way to Texas for a vacation! I can't wait to eat Thanksgiving Dinner! Better take my running shoes for after! :)
